More pics of Brian

Hi Everyone-
Ben has been great about posting and updating on baby Brian, so I thought I would take a turn. He is doing really well. Yesterday he was up to 3 pounds 4 ounces, so he's gaining weight slowly, which is wonderful! They have him off the IV completely and he is up to the full amount of food for his weight. So, now he only has his oxygen meter on his foot and the 3 monitors on his chest to check for his heart rate and breathing. It's nice to see the tubes coming off of him. Each day he looks better and better. The jaundice is gone after just one day under the photo-lights. We have been able to hold him more during each of his feedings and it's hard to put him back in his isolette each time. But the more he sleeps and is left alone, the faster his body can help him keep growing and getting stronger so we can take him home. We don't know when that is yet, but with how well he has been doing this past week it could be sooner than later. Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers- we really appreciate it! Enjoy some more pictures of our cute son! Sorry if some of them are blurry - they keep his room pretty dark so it's hard to get really good pictures.

Quick update

Brian and Sarah are doing well. We've been able to hold him several times and he's progressing quickly. Hopefully it won't take too long before we can bring him home, but probably a few weeks still.

More Pictures

Don't know what to say. I think the pictures speak for themselves. Cute little guy, isn't he?

He's tiny!

Bouncing Baby Boy

I've always wondered why they use the term "bouncing baby", because to me it conjurs images of dropping your child, which is pretty awful.

So for those who haven't heard, Brian Wayne Higginbotham was brought into this world by c-section on July 22, 2009. He is about 7 weeks early, so he's a little guy at 3 lbs, 3 oz and 16 inches long.
We didn't expect him to come so soon. On Monday Sarah was feeling really puffy and hadn't felt him move as much over the weekend, so she called in to see if an appointment was available. At the appointment they found that her blood pressure was really high, so they wanted to get her in the hospital for 24-48 hours to see how she was doing. By Tuesday morning they were saying she'd be in the hospital until she delivered, which would be no later than 3-4 weeks. Later that day they gave it two weeks max, probably one. Wednesday at noon they did an ultrasound and found that he wasn't getting enough blood through the placenta, even though her blood pressure was down to safe levels. They decided it was time to get him out. We found out a little after noon and they had him out at 6:55 that night.
Both Brian and Sarah are doing well. They didn't have to put him on oxygen at all, just a little tiny cpap machine to help his lungs out, but they say he'll probably be off that today already. He's tiny, but strong, and has a good set of lungs on him. Sarah's trying to rest and recover right now. They're monitering her really well and have her doped up on all kinds of things.
We'll post some pictures and things later, once we have some available online and things have calmed down a little.
Thanks everyone for your love and prayers. We really appreciate the support we've gotten through all this.
